Creating with textiles ranged from making formals for her daughters, Kelli and Brandi, for their high school events, to window treatments to Halloween costumes for her younger children, Joe and Natalie. Textiles, fashion and creative sewing have been an integral part of Susie’s life. Sewing for family and home lead Susie to teaching sewing at several sewing machine dealerships and community colleges, then to Bernina of America once she fell in love with the quality of the Bernina brand. After 7 years with Bernina of America, as both a national educator and district sales manager, Susie took the leap to open Sew from the Heart in Scottsdale, Arizona in August 2002.

Sew from the Heart is the culmination of a creative vision that has evolved over 40 years. Susie learned to sew on her mother’s Singer sewing machine in the early 1960’s. She loved the clothes her mother made as well as creating fashions of her own. Ten years later, Susie left for college with a cast iron straight stitch machine and finished 4 years later with a degree in Home Economics.
The leap of faith to begin a brand new business was shared by Susie with her husband, Hank. Hank is a retired Air Force fighter pilot and captain with Frontier Airlines. Hank brings many talents to Sew from the Heart, among them financial management and information technology. Although Hank’s mom, Betty, was not here to see Sew from the Heart, we know she would love to see her son and daughter-in-law bring a “mommy and poppy” business to life. She greatly admired small entrepreneurs!
